The issue is, they might only support X model of emta. The challenge with replacing Spectrum's equipment is that you need a emta which is the digital voice modem, some providers provide is emta gateway which is the emta/modem/router. To my understanding the service cable providers provide is not traditional VoIP, at least from what I read. I dont have experience with Spectrum but I have used Comcast's phone service. according to spectrum installers a lot of clients are complaining. I can't even find the damn pictures on google search. I don't want spectrum to have any control over this at all.

what can you guys recommend to remove their equipment and just install a third party modem/router. i've been only accomplish this once, and got the speed i needed to run all the phones and have perfect calling no latency. the next day by noon the client upgraded the gig speed and services dropped to 150mb 'ish. they seem to not be able to turn of SIP ALG, but. its been 5 days with a service call for each day and one day i got them a tech to script it and i removed the second wifi/router part and just had it directly to my peplink.

It's worth noting I have run a few of those sig alg detectors and they have not found any signs of sip on the client's network.I live in south texas and run into an issue with spectrum and voip, right now in my area spectrum is the only competitor to get gig speed. I know sip ALG is a bastard setting that should be wiped from the earth, but it isn't always the blame for all issues. My understanding is they have a way of see the traffic coming from a specific phone that points to there server. How has tpx come to the conclusion its sip ALG?Īccording to TPX they are seeing packet traffic that has signs of sip alg being enabled. My understanding standing is the clients phones reach out to a hosted PBX in the cloud provided by TPX Is the client on hosted pbx or sip trunks? Everything has been fine for about a year according to the client.
They are using their own router currently its worth noting this issue just recently started. Is it possible to put the isp router/modem into bridge mode and run your own managed router/firewall after? The isp drop is an ethernet cable that runs from an ONT.
